Prusa Lists OpenPrintTag Reader Upgrade for CORE One Printers with October 26 Shipping Start

Prusa lists its OpenPrintTag reader upgrade for the CORE One family at US$19.44, with shipping scheduled to begin October 26, 2026. The accessory adds automatic filament identification and remaining-material tracking using rewritable NFC spool tags.

According to Prusa, inserting tagged filament lets the printer read its material and color and begin preheating. After printing, the printer writes the remaining material amount back to the tag. The system operates offline, making spool information available without relying on a cloud account.

Separate hardware and compatible firmware required

The kit includes the reader board, antenna, cable and printed mounting parts, connecting through the xBuddy board. Prusa lists support for CORE One, CORE One+, CORE One+ Gen 2, CORE One L and CORE One L+. INDX and MMU3 configurations are currently excluded.

Firmware 8.0.0, dated October 22, adds OpenPrintTag support, but installing firmware alone does not provide the physical reader. The upgrade could reduce manual material selection and make spool tracking more convenient; it does not expand the printer's temperature limits or establish compatibility with additional polymers. The shipping date is a stated dispatch start, not a guaranteed delivery date.
