San Diego County Files Lawsuit Against Filament Maker Polymaker

San Diego County has filed a civil lawsuit against Polymaker over allegations that the company deliberately marketed filament for manufacturing illegal, untraceable firearms.

The complaint was filed October 5. The county is working with the Giffords Law Center, and the allegations have not been adjudicated.

The case concerns the marketing and sale of materials for alleged unlawful uses. Filing the complaint does not itself prohibit ordinary filament purchases or establish that Polymaker’s products are illegal.

For the wider printing community, the issue to watch is whether subsequent court orders or company policies affect material availability or marketing. The lawsuit currently provides no basis for changing technical assessments of filament quality or printer compatibility.
